Tips for Great Lip Filler Results
Like any cosmetic procedure, lip fillers should be taken seriously. If you don’t put thought into your decision to get fillers, or you don’t do ample research on your treatment options, you could end up unhappy with your results.
Dr. Joshua Greenwald, a plastic surgeon who is known for his natural approach to all cosmetic procedures, shares his best tips for lip filler results here.
Choose Your Injector Carefully
The experience and skill of your injector will greatly influence the quality of your results. For the most attractive results, you should only trust your lips to someone who is medically qualified, has the proper training and has been performing lip filler treatments for a long time. Do your due diligence: research your injector’s qualifications, look through before-and-after patient images and review patient testimonials.
Be Transparent About Your Goals
When you first meet with your injector, be prepared to explain what you hope to achieve with lip fillers. Do you want to plump up your top lip, bottom lip or both? Do you have asymmetry that needs to be evened out? Do you want your lips to look pouty or more defined and crisp? Clearly communicate these details with your provider. You may want to look through before-and-after images with the injector and pick out examples of patients whom you would like to emulate.
Start With Less
Starting out with a little bit of filler product and slowly adding more is a good way to avoid lips that look “overfilled.” Have your injector build your lips up slowly, using low volumes of filler, and assess the results before asking for more.
If you are brand new to lip fillers, consider choosing a hyaluronic acid-based filler. These products can be easily dissolved with a special enzyme if you are unhappy with your results.
Consider Proportions
There is an art and science to using lip fillers. A qualified injector will be meticulous about producing a beautiful lip shape with the proper proportions between your upper lip and lower lip. According to the “golden ratio,” the vertical height of the upper lip to that of the lower lip should be 1:1.6. Your injector should also evaluate your face as a whole and consider the proportion of your lips to the rest of your facial features.
