Setting the Record Straight on Common CoolSculpting Myths
Dr. Joshua Greenwald and our team are proud to offer CoolSculpting, a non-invasive form of body contouring, and we stand behind our results. We feel it is important to set the record straight on some of the misconceptions about the procedure. Having factual information is crucial if you are on the fence about having CoolSculpting.
Read on as Dr. Greenwald debunks some of the most common CoolSculpting myths.
It’s a Substitute for Diet and Exercise
CoolSculpting is not a substitute for diet and exercise. You will see the best outcomes if you are within a few pounds of your goal weight, follow a healthy diet, exercise regularly, but have stubborn fat deposits you want to eliminate.
The Results Are Comparable To Those of Liposuction
Though CoolSculpting is an effective body contouring procedure, in general the results are not as dramatic as those achieved with liposuction. If you have questions about which procedure is more appropriate for your specific fat reduction needs, Dr. Greenwald and our team can help.
Treatment Is Painful
CoolSculpting is a non-invasive process that does not require incisions, injections or anesthesia. Though the intense cold temperatures may cause some slight discomfort, Dr. Greenwald’s patients do not describe the experience as painful. Many use the treatment time as an opportunity to read, watch television, work on a laptop or even nap. After treatment, there is no recovery downtime needed.
CoolSculpting Only Works on the Abdomen
Originally CoolSculpting was only FDA-cleared for treatment on the abdomen. However, it is now FDA-cleared to treat the following areas of the body:
- Bra fat
- Back fat
- Area underneath the buttocks
- Upper arms
- Thighs
- Area under the chin
- Jawline
CoolSculpting Works for Everyone
CoolSculpting is not recommended for individuals with cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. Dr. Greenwald can discuss other candidacy requirements with you during a consultation.
Only Women Undergo CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting has helped many of our male patients achieve a more sculpted and toned physique! Men commonly have CoolSculpting to treat stubborn fat around the abdomen and flanks, or to define the area underneath the chin and along the jawline.
CoolSculpting Results Are Permanent
CoolSculpting uses freezing temperatures to destroy unwanted fat cells. Once the fat cells are destroyed, the body naturally eliminates the fat cells and they do not return. However, it is possible to gain weight after treatment; if that happens, the remaining fat cells in the treatment area can enlarge and have an adverse effect on the results.
