What Mommy Makeover Can (And Can’t) Accomplish
Mommy makeover is an extraordinary opportunity for mothers that want to reclaim the appearance they enjoyed prior to having children. Treatment involves combining plastic surgery procedures to address the areas of the body affected by pregnancy and nursing.
Dr. Joshua Greenwald feels that setting the right expectations about what mommy makeover can and cannot accomplish is linked to overall patient satisfaction. In this post, he hopes he can clear up some questions prospective candidates may have about the treatment.
Can Treat Loose, Stretched-Out Abdominal Skin
Most mommy makeovers include tummy tuck surgery to correct pregnancy-related changes to the abdominal areas. Loose, stretched-out abdominal skin is a chief complaint among mommy makeover patients and can be eliminated or tightened during the tummy tuck portion of a mommy makeover.
Can Eliminate Stubborn Body Fat on the Midsection, Back, Thighs and Hips
Mommy makeover can reduce or eliminate pockets of stubborn fat on the midsection, back, thighs and hips. Liposuction can even target smaller areas, like the bra-strap area, upper arms, under the chin or neck.
Can Restore Sagging or Flat Breasts Higher on the Chest
Most mommy makeovers include breast lift to elevate saggy or droopy breasts higher on the chest. Breast lift can also relocate and reduce oversized, stretched-out areolas.
Can Enhance Breast Size and Cleavage
Some mommy makeover candidates opt to have breast implants placed to add volume to shapeless breasts. (This is optional and not the case in every mommy makeover.)
Cannot Lead to Weight Loss
Mommy makeover procedures aren’t designed as a weight loss fix. In fact, women that see the best results are within about 10 pounds of their target weight. Tummy tuck and liposuction only remove small amounts of localized body fat, not large amounts of mass.
Cannot Save a Tenuous Marriage
It’s natural for a mommy makeover candidate to believe revamping her appearance can help improve her confidence and possibly even her sex life. However, the treatment is not a Band-Aid for a weak relationship. If the marriage is already strained, having mommy makeover won’t help. It may actually put additional stress on the relationship.
