How to Perk Up Saggy Breasts
As women age, their breasts become vulnerable to the effects of gravity. It’s very common for an older woman’s breasts to sag and droop downward. Or, women who have had children and nursed also frequently experience sagging breasts. This can make a woman feel very self-conscious of her appearance, especially in tight clothing, exercise apparel or a bathing suit.
There are many creams and lotions and exercises that claim to elevate the breasts, but the truth is that surgery is the only way to restore breasts to a more youthful and perky position. New York plastic surgeon Joshua Greenwald offers breast lift surgery at his respected practice. Breast lift can also reduce the size of large areolas — the dark skin that surrounds the nipples — and remove excess skin that plagues people who have experienced significant weight loss.
During breast lift surgery (also called mastopexy), Dr. Greenwald makes an incision around the lower edge of the areola that continues vertically down the breast to the crease of the breast. Through the incision, he tightens the sagging breast tissue and repositions the breast mound higher on the chest. He may also reposition the nipple and areola. Then, Dr. Greenwald removes excess skin and redrapes the remaining skin tightly across the breasts. He closes the incisions with sutures and bandages the breasts.
If his patient is concerned about a lack of volume and fullness in the breasts, Dr. Greenwald may recommend placing breast implants in addition to the breast lift procedure. Saline or silicone implants can subtly or dramatically increase the size of the breasts.
This procedure typically takes several hours and is performed on an outpatient basis in Dr. Greenwald’s accredited New York plastic surgery center. Because of his experience and exceptional surgical technique, Dr. Greenwald can correct his patients’ aesthetic concerns and produce beautiful, natural-looking results.
