How is Radiesse Different from Other Fillers?
If you’re considering dermal fillers to refresh your appearance, Radiesse offers unique benefits compared to other options.
As a board-certified, fellowship-trained expert who’s performed thousands of dermal filler procedures, Dr. Joshua Greenwald is known for his artistic approach to facial contouring for patients in New York and Connecticut.
He’s highly educated in dermal fillers and other injectables, with extensive knowledge about each type of filler and where it shines.
For this Greenwald Plastic Surgery blog, we’re covering Radiesse, a dermal filler like no other.
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is a dermal filler with a unique composition. While many fillers include hyaluronic acid (HA), Radiesse has calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a smooth gel.
This one-of-a-kind formula leads to a variety of benefits that set it apart.
How Radiesse is Unique
Dr. Greenwald injects Radiesse in a similar manner to other dermal fillers, but it’s different in the following ways.
Collagen Stimulation
Radiesse provides immediate volume, like other fillers. It also promotes natural collagen growth over time for additional volume, something that HA fillers don’t do.
Structural Support
The Radiesse formula is thicker than many other dermal fillers. This makes it ideal for contouring and lifting, particularly in:
- Nasolabial Folds: Lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth
- Marionette Lines: Lines from the corners of the mouth to the chin
- Jaw: Loss of jawline definition
- Cheeks: Thinning or sagging cheeks
- Hands: The backs of the hands
Because it provides structural support, Radiesse works well for even deeper lines or areas of significantly depleted volume.
Durability
Because Radiesse works both immediately and gradually, it’s long-lasting. We usually recommend retreatment every two year s to maintain your results.
Understanding the Limits of Radiesse
While Radiesse offers excellent results in many areas, it has specific limitations. Due to its thicker consistency and collagen-stimulating properties, it’s not right for more delicate areas like the lips or under the eyes.
These regions require softer, more flexible fillers (for example, HA formulas like Juvederm) to achieve natural results without the risk of lumps or unevenness.
If your concerns include plumping your lips or reducing dark circles and hollows under your eyes, we may recommend other dermal fillers better suited to those areas.
You can have Radiesse in your smile lines or other areas of concern and have an HA filler during the same appointment, as they play well together.
During your consultation, we’ll help you choose the right products for your goals.
