Is Your Favorite Drink Adding Inches to Your Tummy?
At the New York cosmetic surgery practice of Dr. Joshua A. Greenwald, we understand how appetizing a vanilla latte with whole milk and caramel drizzled on top can be or how refreshing a cold soda on a hot afternoon sounds. But, did you know that sugary coffee drinks and sodas often pack as many or more calories as a brownie or a cookie, especially if you indulge in several of these types of drinks every day?
If you are trying to lose a few inches from your waist and tone your tummy but are not noticing any results, even though you are eating healthy and exercising, your beverages may be to blame.
Highly Caloric Drinks Add Up …
A “Grande,” or medium-sized, vanilla latte with 2-percent milk from Starbucks has 250 calories and 6 grams of fat in it (not to mention 35 grams of sugar). That’s more calories than are in a 1-ounce brownie. One Grande vanilla latte will not completely derail your healthy eating habits. However, two of these drinks pack more calories than 3 ½ brownies. Imagine if you drink one or two — or three — of these a day. The calories add up quickly!
… But May Not Fill You Up
Not only do the calories in sugary drinks add up, but they often do not satisfy the body’s nutritional requirements, leaving you craving more. Beverages do not have to be chewed. Thirsty individuals can gulp down beverages rather quickly. This can leave your body craving more food even after you have just had two sodas, because your body is not feeling satiated, despite the amount of calories it just consumed.
Water Is Your Friend
Staying hydrated by drinking good-ol’ water is your best bet if you want to stay fit and healthy. That said, we realize that drinking water can seem boring. To add a bit of flavor to your water, try adding slices of oranges, lemons or cucumbers, or dropping two or three blueberries or raspberries into it.
Need a Little Help Toning Your Tummy?
If you have cut out unnecessary sugary beverages but still are not achieving the toned tummy you long for, you might need a bit of extra help from Dr. Greenwald. Sometimes, factors such as the natural aging process, major weight loss or pregnancy can leave individuals with lax abdominal skin that hangs off the body, or greatly weakened or separated abdominal muscles. Once this happens, no amount of diet and exercise will help. Thankfully, Dr. Greenwald offers liposuction and tummy surgery in New York to help you attain the svelte figure you desire.
