Planning for a Comfortable BBL Recovery
Brazilian butt lift (BBL) can produce incredible results, but the recovery period can pose some unique challenges. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Joshua Greenwald, will walk you through the procedure and recovery steps so you feel prepared for the entire process and achieve the best outcome possible. Planning for BBL recovery and preparing your home is an excellent way to reach your desired results.
How to Avoid Sitting Down After BBL
Some transferred fat will reabsorb naturally, but putting too much pressure on the buttocks too soon can cause more fat cells to die off, affecting the buttock contour and BBL results. You must avoid sitting down for the first two weeks and minimize sitting for six weeks. Instead, plan to lie on your stomach as much as possible during the initial weeks of BBL recovery.
Sitting is an automatic response whenever you’re tired, eating, watching TV, or talking on the phone. Place a laundry basket or another large object in the chairs you use most to stop yourself from sitting down on instinct. Consider purchasing a doughnut-shaped cushion to sit on during BBL recovery and place the cushion or pillow under your thighs to avoid pressure on the buttocks.
When you must sit down, try not to sit for longer than five minutes at a time and stand between these periods to restore blood flow. Dr. Greenwald recommends that patients avoid driving for several weeks for the same reason and bring a cushion to sit on the ride home after the procedure.
Diet and Exercise After BBL
Nutrition during BBL recovery is paramount because gaining or losing weight will alter your results. Nutrient-rich, healthy foods help your body heal and prevent weight gain while you’re sedentary. Preparing meals ahead of time can set you up for success. Focus on high-protein foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats, such as avocado and fish.
You won’t be able to go to the gym and do your usual workout for six weeks or longer after BBL. However, movement is a necessary part of BBL recovery. Dr. Greenwald recommends regular walks starting the first week of recovery to help blood circulation. He will discuss exercises you can do safely to increase blood flow and prevent blood clots after BBL.
Preparing Your Home for BBL Recovery
Create a comfortable space in your home where you can lie on your stomach and place recovery items within reach, such as phone chargers, water bottles, blankets, and snacks. Make sure you have clean, loose-fitting clothes ready for recovery, and ask a close friend or family member to stay with you for the first couple of days after your BBL procedure.
