What Happens If You Have Another Child After Mommy Makeover?
In general, Dr. Joshua Greenwald recommends that you defer mommy makeover until you are reasonably sure you are done having children. However, life does not always go according to plan. You may change your mind after your cosmetic surgery and decide you want to grow your family. Or, you may unexpectedly discover you are pregnant.
In either scenario, you probably have questions and some concerns. Here, Dr. Greenwald explains what to know about having another child after mommy makeover.
Pregnancy Is Safe
As you may have already learned, mommy makeover does not affect the ability to safely conceive. Furthermore, the cosmetic treatment does not present any obstacle to your safety during pregnancy or the health of your growing baby. Your chances of having a healthy pregnancy and smooth delivery after mommy makeover are the same as they would be if you did not have cosmetic surgery. Though the ability to breastfeed depends on several factors, many women who get breast implants as part of mommy makeover are able to successfully nurse.
How Will Pregnancy Affect Your Cosmetic Results?
The reason Dr. Greenwald recommends delaying mommy makeover until you are done having children is because pregnancy can “undo” some of the results of your mommy makeover. Throughout your pregnancy, your breast and abdominal skin will stretch out again and you may accumulate stubborn pockets of excess fat on other areas of your body. Your abdominal muscles will stretch out or separate to accommodate your developing baby, and you may develop a slight abdominal “pooch.” After weaning your baby, your breasts may sit lower on your chest and look flat or saggy. As you know, exercise and diet can help you lose baby weight, but they can’t tighten skin or muscles that have stretched with pregnancy.
Revision Surgery Is Usually an Option
If you feel discouraged by the changes to your body after pregnancy, revision surgery is almost always a possibility. You may choose to undergo a tummy tuck to retighten your abdominal skin and muscles and contour your abdomen, and you can have your breasts lifted again to achieve a perkier contour.
Dr. Greenwald will develop a plan to help you reclaim your desired results on a timeline that suits your lifestyle and needs. He has many years of experience helping women just like you feel feminine and sexy after pregnancy, and he would be happy to answer questions you have about your particular situation.
