What Areas of the Face Can Be Treated With Botox?
Have months of looking at an unforgiving reflection on Zoom or FaceTime calls prompted you to consider cosmetic treatment? You do not necessarily have to undergo invasive surgery to reclaim a youthful, fresh appearance. A few well-placed Botox injections can help you become a more attractive version of yourself.
Read on as Dr. Joshua Greenwald reveals the areas of the face that can be gently rejuvenated with Botox.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox is injected into points around the face and neck to relax muscles that repeatedly contract to form common facial expressions. The injectable temporarily relaxes those muscles by interrupting the communication from the nerves to the muscles. As the muscles relax, the overlying lines or wrinkles becomes less visible.
Thanks to its versatility, Dr. Greenwald and our team use Botox for numerous anti-aging purposes. Some areas of the face respond better to Botox than others.
Common Botox Treatment Areas
Vertical frown lines
Botox can soften frown lines (a.k.a., “glabellar lines”), which are vertical lines or creases that form between the eyebrows and nose from repeatedly frowning or furrowing the brows.
Crow’s feet
Botox can minimize fine lines or wrinkles that extend from the corners of the eyes outward. Crow’s feet form from repeatedly squinting or smiling.
Forehead wrinkles
Injecting Botox into the forehead can relax horizontal creases or lines that give the face a sad, angry or prematurely aged expression.
Low or heavy brow
Sometimes Botox is used to create a subtle “brow lift” effect. Injecting Botox into the muscles that pull the eyebrows down can lift the tails of the brows by a few millimeters, brightening the eyes and overall facial expression.
Neck bands
Botox can reduce the appearance of stubborn neck bands or “cords” that appear due to aging platysma muscles.
Downturned corners of the mouth
Some plastic surgeons use Botox to lift drooping corners of the mouth. The injectable relaxes a muscle called the depressor anguli oris, or DAO, which connects the corners of the mouth to the jaw and pulls down on the sides of the mouth. As the DAO relaxes, the corners of the mouth assume a more neutral position.
