Liposuction for the Thighs: What to Know
The thighs play an important role in your body’s overall shape. But thighs are notorious for accumulating excess fatty tissue. For many women (and some men), unwanted fat along the inner and outer thighs is easy to gain but nearly impossible to lose through diet and exercise efforts.
Dr. Joshua Greenwald offers thigh liposuction, a safe and effective solution for excess thigh fat. With his finely tuned eye for artistry, balance and proportion, the plastic surgeon can reshape your legs to create a more beautiful contour that complements the rest of your body. Read on for more information about liposuction for the thighs.
Treatment Overview
Liposuction can be performed on your inner thighs, outer thighs or front of the thighs. Inner thigh liposuction is particularly popular among Dr. Greenwald’s patients, as many women desire a “thigh gap,” in which the inner thighs do not touch. Thigh liposuction can also contour outer thighs that have accumulated a lot of fat and developed unsightly “saddlebags.”
Ideally, you will be in good health and at or relatively close to your target body weight. When evaluating you for liposuction, Dr. Greenwald will consider the elasticity of the skin on your thighs. If there is little elasticity and the skin is loose, simply removing fat generally will not provide the desired results. Thigh lift, which removes skin and fat, may be the more appropriate solution.
Dr. Greenwald performs thigh liposuction through tiny incisions made in your groin crease or the buttocks crease. The incisions and surgical instruments are so small that scarring is virtually invisible. Dr. Greenwald uses a slender, hollow tube called a cannula to break up and remove fat from the targeted area(s) of the thighs. He works carefully and methodically to ensure the result looks smooth and symmetrical.
Recovering From Thigh Liposuction
The recovery from thigh liposuction tends to be fairly quick. Initially, your thighs may be moderately swollen and bruised, and you may have some discomfort. Dr. Greenwald will advise you to avoid vigorous or strenuous activities and wear a compression garment to help support the healing tissues.
Starting in the second week after surgery, the aftereffects should start to gradually subside. At that point, Dr. Greenwald usually encourages limited movement. He will likely clear you to resume all of your normal daily activities four to six weeks after surgery.
As long as you maintain your weight in the years following liposuction, you should enjoy your results indefinitely!
