Save Winter Skin With a Non-Surgical Treatment
Winter skin is the worst. Central heating combined with cold temperatures and harsh winds dry out the skin, making it appear dull. Plus, the lack of hydration can also cause fine lines and wrinkles to become more noticeable.
Fortunately, there are simple, non-surgical treatments that can restore the skin’s luminosity. And the reduced sun exposure that typically accompanies the winter promotes healing and longer-lasting results.
Below, the team at Greenwald Plastic Surgery discusses four ways patients can save their winter skin non-surgically.
Facials
As the least invasive procedure on this list, a facial is a relaxing treatment that caters to a variety of skincare needs. A facial hydrates the skin, improves circulation and exfoliates and brightens the skin, helping to even out discoloration.
A facial also infuses vitamins and antioxidants into the skin, making the skin glow during the harsh winter months.
Injectables
There are two categories of injectables, fillers and Botox, both of which can make the skin appear tighter and younger-looking.
Fillers fill in lines, wrinkles and creases in the skin. They also add volume to specific areas of the face, especially the lips, under-eye hollows and cheeks.
When Botox is injected into the skin, it prevents specific facial muscles from contracting, thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
Fraxel Dual Laser
This is a non-ablative laser treatment that addresses the following skin issues:
- Fine lines
- Age spots
- Textural irregularities
- Acne scars
- Melasma
- Dullness
The Fraxel dual laser includes two lasers in one device. Each laser has a different wavelength. One laser treats sun damage and pigmentation, and the other goes deeper to treat textural issues, such as scars and wrinkles.
The treatment peels away the skin’s imperfections, revealing a fresh layer of radiant, healthy skin. It also stimulates skin cell turnover and promotes collagen production.
Fraxel dual laser treatment involves three to five days of downtime, during which patients will feel as if their skin is sunburned. The skin will be itchy, peeling, scaly and red.
But, as previously mentioned, winter is the best time to get this type of treatment. People typically spend less time in the sun during the winter, and less exposure to UV rays promotes faster healing and reduces the likelihood of sun damage post-treatment.
Microneedling
Microneedling is used for skin resurfacing, tightening and scar reduction. During the treatment, small needles are used to prick the skin, which causes the body to produce new skin tissue and collagen. This makes the skin tighter and smoother and gives it a plump, healthy appearance.
