Plastic Surgery Procedures You’ve Never Heard Of
While procedures such as breast enhancement, rhinoplasty and tummy tucks are among the best-known in plastic surgery, there are many other operations that can embellish or correct your looks. Some of these lesser-known procedures may prove exactly what you seek in creating a more attractive face or body.
Dimpleplasty
Facial dimples have long been considered beauty emblems. For those not born with dimples, a surgeon can provide them in a roughly 30-minute procedure known as a dimpleplasty. This minimally invasive procedure requires only a local anesthetic. By making a small incision in the cheeks or chin, the surgeon removes a small piece of muscle, then stitches the skin to the indentation to form the dimple.
During the healing process, the resulting scar tissue causes the dimple to become permanent. Other than some facial swelling, most patients do not experience any discomfort after the surgery.
Venus Dimples
Also known as back dimples, Venus dimples occur in ligaments between the skin and back, above the sacroiliac joints and buttocks. These indentations, more common in females than males, complement a buttock lift, so many patients decide to have both procedures done at the same time.
Creating a Venus dimple is relatively straightforward. Targeted liposuction gives the illusion of Venus dimples, after the surgeon uses a cannula to remove fat and sculpt the indentations. The recovery period for the process is about two weeks.
Otoplasty
Just as some people do not like the size or shape of their noses or breasts, others are dissatisfied with the look of their ears. That is where otoplasty can help. Better known as cosmetic ear surgery, otoplasty can change how far ears stick out, the size of the ears, and also correct ear misshapenness. The result is balanced, more proportionate ears. Surgical scars are hidden either behind the ears or within the ears’ natural creases.
The surgery does not affect hearing or ear location. It is also a surgery suitable for those age 5 to adulthood. Complete healing after the procedure is generally achieved within six weeks, but from the minute the bandages are removed, the difference is readily apparent.
